The real life Barbie Girl

Say hello to Valeria Lukyanova, a 21-year old Ukrainian girl, who had all her childhood dreams of becoming Barbie come true..
Thanks to extensive cosmetic surgery.

In an interview with V magazine, Valeria The human Barbie said:
"Many people say bad things about people who want to perfect themselves. It's hard work, but they dismiss it as something done by surgeons or computer artists.. But I don't take them seriously. I'm even flattered! It's what success is like. I'm happy I seem unreal to them, it means I'm doing a good job."

I can't help but think that most of the 'Barbie girl' stereotypes I've come to know or seen up until now have been merely extensions, excessive makeup and a heck of a lot of pink clothing.
It is pretty remarkable what Valeria has done to her body & the lengths she has gone to live her dream, but how far is too far?

She also claimed that she has seen a rise in girls jumping on the Barbie trend.
"Indeed, I've noticed a trend. Every good-looking woman with fine features and a slim figure looks like a doll," she observed. "I won't deny that I play along with people's perceptions. I'm amused by the reactions. I don't take it seriously."

The Creatures family is in the plastic surgery business and I'm no stranger to hearing stories about surgery. I even have a large amount of friends who have gone under the knife themselves. But its pretty scary how much women (and men) these days are willing to change themselves in order to be deemed beautiful. & increasingly to become successful.
In Valeria's case her transformation has paid off, her modelling career has took off with a bang, but how long will her beauty last and will she be just a 15 minutes of fame star? - I mean looking like Barbie is a novelty right?

Dr. Anthony LaBruna, Plastic Surgeon Director of Manhattan Plastic Surgery, estimates that Valeria has spent half a million pounds to get her near-perfect Barbie look.
"If Barbie were an actual woman, she would be 5’9″ tall, 110 pounds, have a 38DD″ bust, an 18″ waist, and 33″ hips. If Barbie was a real-life woman, she would have to walk on all fours to accommodate her uneven proportions"

The doctor added a natural woman would need to surgically cut into her bone and ribs to have a smaller waist and wider hips to accomodate the perfect Barbie look.
Dolls are suppose to have exaggerated features, glassy eyes, and a plastic appearance. Transferring such an image onto a real-life human being somehow doesn't have the same effect.
Valeria and other women pursuing perfection have reportedly been known have been incredibly insecure and extremely self-critical. & It's has been said by critics to be a sad statement when women feel the need to go to such drastic measures to attain an out-of-reach level of beauty...

_________________________________________

I think although this is most definitely not my cup of tea, Valeria has made a life choice & by all accounts seems pretty darn chuffed with herself. So who are we to judge her decision. We all have our own perceptions of beauty. For example, I love the 1950's vintage house wife look & would not say a flat no to a few nips & tucks later in life, but for some this is an alien concept.
- I'm not saying I'm about to jump on the bandwagon, but when I finally have kids & my bangers give into gravity, I don't think I would mind paying for a little lift!
& Valeria simply likes her style to be pink, plastic & fan-flipping-tastic.

So what do you think of the Barbie look?

  2. I agree, some of the photos of her in dress up are just plain freaky.. I chose the most flattering pictures, but there are some seriously strange ones on her page.

I think its great if its making her happy, but its definetly not something I'd do myself.

  3. No disrespect to this young lady but I cannot imagine why anyone would ever do this to themselves. I'm not against cosmetic surgery but I think this is just taking things excess. Personally, the way she looks frightens the life out of me and the first thing that popped into my head when I seen the pictures was not Barbie it was ... Alien! xxx

    1. I kind of agree to an extent, but I think she doesn't help matters with the dramatic make up!

  4. I don't think she looks bad, but I agree she looks a little freaky! If she's happy and it's paid off for her then that's great for her, but I wouldn't want this for myself.

    1. It's no idea of fun either Kim, but it's her choice & I do think she looks pretty in some of the black & white photos.
I think it's a combination of the surgery & the dramatic makeup that make some of her photos a little scary.

  8. I'm not going to lie. This is more than a little bit freaky!
I don't wish to judge anyone, but personally I much prefer the natural look. If people don't slow down on all of these artificial modifications then one day, we are all just going to look like clones.

    1. I was a little reluctant to comment too much, most of whats above came from quotes. But I agree to an extent, some people really do become addicted to surgery, but I know a lot of people whom plastic surgery has helped them.

  9. This is terrifying and I find it so sad that somebody would want to do this to themselves. I think it is sad enough that some people wear far too much make-up because they don't feel comfortable with how they look but this is just another level!
    Thanks for flagging this up.

    1. No problem Beeta. I know, I do wonder if this is all a self esteem problem but she really has gone to drastic measure & well, she must be a pretty strong woman to even go through all of the pain!
