Dr Organic Argan Oil Shampoo & Conditioner | Review

A few weeks a go you may have seen that I was lucky enough to have won the EtailPR £250 Facebook competition (see blog post here). I was sent a box full to the brim of goodies from the likes of Linzi Shoes, Macadamia OilYogi, Elemis & Dr Organic.

I have managed to put all of the products EtailPR sent me to the test& I'm at the stage now where I'll be writing a few separate reviews to avoid spamming you with hoards of information. But todays review is of two of the many products I received from Dr Organic, the Argan Oil shampoo & conditioner.

So, onto the review itself. We all know the benefits of Argan Oil for our hair, & I'm not an Argan oil virgin either, many of my favourite shower time treats are AO based, so Dr Organics shampoo & conditioner sounded perfect.
Firstly, all of the products are packaged very nicely, many of the ones I received came in lovely boxes & all the bottle caps are embossed silver which instantly look luxurious. I love bath products to look inviting as well as be great for your body/hair, so again, these little treats looked practically perfect.

If you read my blog you'll know smells and scents are a big thing for me. I spend half my life in places like Lush and The Body Shop getting floral and fruity products, so you can imagine my disappointment when I found the shampoo & conditioner smelt vile. You may think vile is a strong word to use, but honestly It smelt like I had smeared medicine on my hair, which I guess considering the products came from Dr Organic, that's no big surprise. But jeez, even Creature told me to wash my hair again with my usual products!
I didn't, in the name of beauty reviews, I stuck out the smell (and yes it lingered) for the next two days until I jumped back in the shower & used my trusty Macadamia Oil.

Putting a side the smell issues, I must admit that my hair did feel really soft afterwards & I can't deny that it's something my hair could benefit from more (that being a good wash with a good quality Argan Oil product) I can whole heartedly vouch that the shampoo & conditioner does what it says on the tin. "It smoothes and cleanses the hairs cuticle fibres leaving it looking and feeling beautifully rehydrated and revitalised". - Which it did.. But would I reach for the product again? Probably not.

Overall I have to admit, I don't think I could get past the smell issue. If it didn't linger quite so strongly I would have reconsidered, because it honestly did make my hair look fabulous.. But honestly I didn't feel comfortable in my own skin after using it. & no amount of shine can counter the smell for me.

Have you ever tried Dr Organic Argan Oil Shampoo & conditioners?

So as you can see, EtailPR & Chi Chi have teamed up again to give us another chance to win an amazing prize! All you have to do is make a collage of your favourite items to enter!

For my collage I decided to go with my 4 favourite blue dresses on the website right now. Normally I'm a warm tones kind of girl, but I couldn't help but fall in love with all 4 of these gorgeous cocktail/prom dresses.
I'm an absolute sucker for lace too which is something that Chi Chi does very well. Everything is so pretty & feminine. Perfect for special occasions or all of you glamorous shoppers out there!

I think my favourite out of the four above is definitely the gorgeous iced blue Megan dress, again it's because of the lace. The cut is really classy & would be absolutely perfect for a summer wedding with a nude shoe & simple clutch bag. - It just makes me want to go shopping for fascinators!

AmaZene hamper goodies review

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to win my first ever twitter competition, receiving a luxury hamper courtesy of @AvocadoBrother

Image taken from hampergifts

The hamper itself was worth £80 & the products definitely reflect that.
not only are the products I have tried so far of a high quality, the quantity and size of the tubs are really generous.
(oh & the teddy - I named her  Ava - is super cute too)

So far I have tested out my berry candle (which smelt yummy in my room) my hand towel, which is a really thick fabric & really plush.
I have also tested out the body scrub and shower gel. which I'm going to tell you a little more about now.

(once again apologies for the lack of quality picture)

Avocado & Andiroba body scrub
RRP £11.95

AmaZene describe the product:
"Avocado is one of the most easily absorbed natural oils and is transported deep into the tissue to form an excellent emollient and skin moisturiser. Combined with Andiroba, a tree found in the Amazon region, it creates an effective skin renewing agent.
These incredible exfoliating scrubs will stimulate the whole body. Gently massage into the skin as part of your beauty routine to leave you feeling rejuvenated and looking radiant."

I LOVE body scrub.
So you can imagine how excited I got when I saw this sat in my hamper. The texture is quite sandy and grainy, but when rubbed on your skin doesn't feel harsh and washes away really easily.
Although the texture is grainy, (as expected with a scrub) I'm pleased to say it's also got a lovely creaminess to it which helps sooth your skin.

I will however say that the smell doesn't blow me away. Its a very subtle fresh smell, but doesn't linger on the skin.
As a scrub, the results are fantastic, my skin felt absolutely amazing afterwards.
But as you can imagine, avocado isn't a very strong scent so if you prefer to emerge from the shower smelling fruity and fresh, maybe team this with your usual shower gel.
(alternatively there are more scrubs available on the Amazene website in fruity scents)

Avocado & Andiroba bath & shower gel
RRP £6.95

AmaZene describe the product:
Avocado is one of the most easily absorbed natural oils and is transported deep into the tissue to form an excellent emollient and skin moisturiser. Combined with Andiroba, a tree found in the Amazon region, it creates an effective skin renewing agent.
Our SLS-free bath and shower gels are the perfect start to your day. Packed full of natural and organic extracts, they gently cleanse and tone whilst invigorating the senses.

I really do hate writing reviews where I'm sort of sitting on the fence about a product, but I really can't make up my mind about this one.
On one hand I love the feel of the gel, it seems to work well with my skin & works in harmony with the scrub with its soothing qualities.

It's a silky texture (bordering on slimy) - best applied with a shower sponge.

But again like the scrub, smell wise, it's not blowing my mind.
I'm privileged enough to have been given these products for free and I'm certainly going to continue to use them, but I wonder if maybe a combination of the avocado scrub (for its excellent absorption qualities) teamed with one of Amazenes other fruity products, like the Papaya & Acerola gel instead (purely for smell) might be a better combination.

All in all, I'm enjoying using the products I've received & definitely reccommend the brand if you haven't tried them before.
The products are actually reasonably priced (around the same £££ as The Body Shop) & I really rate the overall quality of what I have tested so far.

Still waiting to be reviewed are the hand washes (I got two of the same) & the soap bar.
The bath salts and bath bomb may be somewhat problematic... Because I don't have a bath, so it may be a long wait to review that one!

I never got any of the lotions or body butters in my hamper so I'll be buying some of them for myself soon & will review them asap! I'm hoping they're as good as the scrub -fingers crossed-
But I'll be sure to buy one of the fruitier options to save on negatives about lack of smell!

Have you tried any AmaZene products?
What do you think of them?

Liebster award

I've been incredibly lucky to be nominated for a Liebster award from two lovely bloggers, Efia & Gina. But honestly when I first received a tweet from Gina, I had absolutely no clue what this was all about. After reading about it however, I've discovered that it's a lovely way for bloggers with less than 200 followers to get recognised for their blogging efforts :)
& I'm so very thankful to both of you for nominating me, and also to all who are reading my blog.
So here are the rules:
1. Each person tagged must post 11 things about themselves
2. They must also answer the 11 questions the tagger has set for them
3. They must create 11 more questions to ask bloggers they have decided to tag
4. They must then choose 11 bloggers with less than 200 followers to tag
5. These lucky bloggers must be told
6. There are no tag backs

My world consists of 11 things:
Tetley tea
- I feel like I'm cheating on Yorkshire tea, but honestly Tetleys the daddy
Home cooking
- Since moving out into the big bad world on my own, I've taught myself how to cook. & I'm so extraordinarily cocky about my skills that I've even applied for Come Dine with Me!
A cow obsession
- This has developed since I moved from fashion city to rural town.. The creatures are just so darn cute! & as a result I now have several onesies, pairs of slippers, posters, teddies etcc..
Dancing
- Before moving to university, I was part of a dance school for 8 years. Even now, 3 years after leaving I still shimmy about my flat to old songs we had routines to.
Photography
- To be fair my photography skills are pretty poor, and I can't be trusted with anything technological. Never the less, I do love taking pictures and documenting anything and everything in photographs.
Fashion and beauty
- Obviously, a girls favourite topics. I hope to go on from my degree to become a feature writer for a fashion or lifestyle magazine. Pipe dream but until then, I'll blog my butt off instead (& continue to drain my bank balance with new products)
Reading nonsense
- My Kindle is my favourite gadget & I0m always found either drinking tea or with my nose glued to its screen. I'm also partial to a good old library book or two.
Writing
- I have written my own fictional story.. But it still needs some work. Maybe someday soon I will release it and let you guys have a neb. I'm my own worst critic.
Family & Friends
- I wouldn't function with them. Especially my bonkers Mama, she’s amazing & did I mention crazy? Yeah she's a loopy bird.
My boyfriend Dan (The Creature)
- An awesome dude & almost always on my wavelength, which is rare! He's my best friend as well as my fella -n'aww soppy-

Questions for me, from best new beauty reviews – by Gina
My questions for those I'm tagging are:
1. What one thing are you the most passionate about?
Probably reading, I love finding new books, and old classics for that matter. Anything that really makes me think or challenges me

2. If you could be any celebrity who would it be?
Ooo ouch, that’s a tough one.. I think it would have to be Holly Willoughby. She’s sexy, sophisticated and a fantastic role model to the younger generation.

3. Do you religiously follow fashion trends or just go with what suits you?
I tend to stick with classic cuts that suit my curves. But if a new trend comes out with a funky twist on a classic, I'm all for following the crowd

4. What was/is your favourite subject at school?
Art, I was one of the best in my class back in the day so it gave me a major confidence boost in high school.. Although now I am at university I would have to say my favourite subject is magazine design & production.

5. Who is the one person in your life you could go to with any problem?
My Mama, there’s nothing that phases her. If I have a problem & it’s particularly sensitive, embarrassing or difficult she’s always calm and helps me out in any way she can.

6. Do you have a signature scent?
Yes I do. I've had a love affair with CKin2u for going on 5 years! I always end up with several bottles for xmas and if I wear anything else, The Creature always tells me I smell weird :)

7. What is your best beauty find of all time?
Probably Maybelline dream matte mousse. My skin is awfully sensitive and prone to dry patches, but dream matte seems to be the only foundation that I've ever really religiously bought.

 8. Who do you live with?
I live with 5 other girls in  a (slightly mental) student flat in Huddersfield, however it does mean I can get the girls to test out new products with me and get some great reviews!

9. What's your favourite type of blog post to write?
Probably lifestyle, although I post about beauty and fashion lots too. My blog is all about 6 resolutions and my life in-between so it gives me room to write about anything I fancy.

10. What's your favourite TV show?
Game of Thrones.. Nerdy, yes. But after reading the books I was hooked and the TV show hasn't disappointed either. I'm also partial to a Friend’s marathon or two too..

11. Do you have a hidden talent?
I wouldn't say it was a hidden talent as such, but I first came to uni to study costume & textiles, but after the first year I applied for Journalism because I found I was a dab hand at writing (and hated costume with burning passion in the end). I suppose my hidden talent is my imagination. I'm quite creative, and it’s helped push me on the right path for my future career

Questions for me, from Effy talks life – by Efia
(1) What make-up product could you not live without?
As I said above, Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse is probably my most bought make-up product. Although if you can class chocolate Vaseline as make-up, I seriously cannot live without that either.
(2) What is your favourite meal?
Lasagne. Hands down one the greatest culinary creations of all time..
Italy, I thank you!

(3) How would you spend £100?
I'd like to say I'd invest it, like any smart person would do... But as a poor student I'd probably treat me and the creature to some new clobber or a fancy meal out :)

(4) If you had to live in another era which would you choose, and why?
The 50's , I would love to have been a pin up girl. So much so that I've had a pin up shoot earlier this year and am currently working my little butt off to pay for prints!

(5) What do you hope to gain from blogging?
My blog started out as a way for me to improve and practice my writing skills for University. But now I'm just doing this for myself. I'm not going to be a blogger who will get a massive following, I'm too erratic and haphazard for that, but I love the little following I have & all the girls who have given me such lovely feedback and support. The blogging community is amazing! & I hope to gain some more friends.

(6) What's your favourite book?
The secret Garden, it’s a British classic & was the first book I read that made me cry.

(7) If you had one day left to live how would you spend it?
Eating all my favourite foods, and sky diving in my favourite frock and heels.

(8) What's the craziest thing you've ever done?
If I told you.. I'd have to kill you.
I joke.
Errmm probably the craziest thing would have to be, climbing out off a balcony to get pizza after we broke the door handle to our flat in Faliraki.

(9) What are you pet peeves?
People picking their fingers, ooooft it goes straight through me.
That, and really over enthusiastic displays of affection.. Yes, I have a boyfriend & enjoy a cheeky peck whilst out every now and again.. But I still refrain from eating his face in the que for Burger King.

(10) First song lyrics that come to your head?
Say my name!As every colour illuminates! We are shining! And we’ll never be afraid again!
Florence & the Machine - Spectrum

(11) Can you do a cartwheel?
No, which is a shameful fact... Especially because I had the cheek to call myself a dancer back in the day.. But I can do the splits.. Which is a plus?

The girls I'm nominating for a Liebster are...
Drumroll please..

I know there are less than 11,
But these girls have fantastic blogs and deserve to be recognised for it.
I really am so thankful to the girls who have nominated me, and hope the girls above have as much fan as I did answering all the question set for them :)

So to my nominees, here are your questions:

1. Describe yourself in less than 10 words
2. If you were stranded on a desert island, what 3 items would you have with you?
3. What is your favourite fashion trend of all time?
4. Where do you see yourself in 10 years’ time?
5. What was your favourite childhood TV programme?
6. If you were only allowed to eat either all savoury or all sweet food for the rest of your life.. Which would you choose?
7. Do you have anything in your wardrobe over 5 years old?
8. What was your worst ever impulse buy?
9. If you found £100 on the floor, would you hand it in?
10. What is your favourite song at the moment?
11. If you could meet any celebrity, who would it be?
Good luck girls,
I look forward to reading your Liebster award posts
